MSHA requesting quarry/mining personnel be randomly tested

Submitted on Jan 01, 2008

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has been performing inspections and citing regulation 30 CFR - 56.20001 "Intoxicating beverages and narcotics" as the written requirement necessary to perform random testing on quarry personnel. If you are not currently doing random testing on your quarry personnel be advised that MSHA is recomending doing so. MSHA says you are responsible to insure all quarry personnel are not under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when on the job. 30 CFR 56.20001 also states "Intoxicating beverages and narcotics shall not be permitted or used in or around mines. Persons under the influence of alcohol or narcotics shall not be permitted on the job." If this regulation pertains to you we can help. We have policies and procedures for non-federal testing of quarry personnel and random testing procedures that mirror our current procedures for Federal testing.
