Bath Salts is the latest example of designer drugs. Also known as “Ivory Wave,” “White Knight,” “Vanilla Sky,” and “Bliss”. This product is sold as bath salts and then carefully labeled as not for human consumption but this is not what we put in our bathtubs like Epsom salts but rather a highly a addictive drug containing Mephedrone and MDPV (Methylenedioxypyrovalerone). Both drugs are stimulants that act much like Methamphetamine and Cocaine, but produce the added effect of hallucinations.
Citing an “imminent threat to public safety,” the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made illegal the possession and sale of three of the chemicals commonly used to make bath salts -- the synthetic stimulants mephedrone, MDPV, and methylone. The ban, issued in October 2011, is effective for at least a year. During that time, the agency will decide whether a permanent ban is warranted.
Bath Salts are snorted, injected, or smoked primarily by teens and young adults due to the widespread availability on the Internet, local convenience stores, and smoke shops. The major side effects if using bath salts are similar to Methamphetamine and Cocaine, elevated heart rate, hypertension, irritability, extreme paranoia, hallucinations, delusions of super human strength, aggressive and violent behavior. There are also concerns of overdose and suicide, this drug is extremely toxic and may result in permanent brain damage.
